Department of health and social care consultation on revoking vaccination as a condition of deployment across all health and social care
NHS Providers responds to the Department of Health and Social Care’s consultation on revoking vaccination as a condition of deployment across all health and social care. In this submission we:
- agree that, at this stage, the government must proceed with its intention to revoke the requirement for vaccination as a condition of deployment (VCOD), having made its intention to do so public. Any further change in approach would create further frustration and could risk damaging working relationships between trust leaders and ‘the centre’ (DHSC and NHS England and NHS Improvement), frontline leaders and their staff, and the public and the NHS
- outline alternative steps that could be taken to increase vaccine uptake
- consider the impact of revoking VCOD on vulnerable staff and patients and outline actions that can be taken to protect staff with protected characteristics
- discuss the potential positive impact of revoking VCOD on actions to tackle race disparity and health inequalities
Our submission to the original consultation, submitted in October 2021, is available here.
