Next Day Briefing: UK Covid-19 Inquiry: preliminary hearings on module 2

This week the UK Covid-19 Inquiry (the Inquiry) held preliminary hearings for module 2. This module will examine the UK’s core political and administrative decision-making in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic. It will also incorporate separate hearings into decision making in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Our briefing summarises the key issues from the three days of hearings this week, including: future hearing dates, designation of the core participants for this module and the key concerns raised, the approach to be taken to rule 9 requests, and details of the listening exercise the Inquiry will conduct.

It also summarises the chair’s rulings following the preliminary hearing on 4 October 2022 for module 1 (which will examine government planning and preparedness)
