Trust leaders deeply concerned by devastating impact of COVID-19 in India

29 April 2021

Commenting on the escalating COVID-19 pandemic in India, the deputy chief executive of NHS Providers Saffron Cordery said:

"Trust leaders are deeply concerned about the devastating impact COVID-19 is having across India.

"The scale of human loss and suffering caused by rising infection rates, shortages of oxygen, hospital beds and vital equipment is appalling.

"We know that many NHS staff, including those who have family and friends in India, will be extremely anxious about the situation. Trusts are working to support them at this difficult time.

Trust leaders stand in solidarity with healthcare leaders and professionals in India.

Saffron Cordery    Deputy Chief Executive

"Trust leaders stand in solidarity with healthcare leaders and professionals in India who are working tirelessly to provide essential care to their patients in the most challenging of circumstances.

"We are pleased to hear the UK government and national NHS is sending further life-saving oxygen equipment to India, in addition to the 495 oxygen concentrators and 200 ventilators sent earlier this week.

"These national efforts stand alongside the individual support being provided by clinicians across the country."
