Responding to the findings from the General Medical Council’s national training survey, the deputy chief executive of NHS Providers, Saffron Cordery, said:

“It is good to see there is positive feedback about the quality of training, and that so many trainers enjoy this aspect of their work.

“But the pressures on doctors in training and on those who train them are all too evident in these findings, with rota gaps and time pressures causing frustration and high levels of burnout.

“Trust leaders recognise the importance of supporting high quality medical education.

“They are also committed to tackling discrimination.

“These findings are a reminder of the need for progress in ensuring a supportive and properly resourced environment for medical training, recognising the crucial role played by medical trainers and trainees in the care of patients today and in the future.

“Trust leaders are ready to play their part.”
