Data and tracking the impact of the virus

All trusts are submitting regular data about COVID-19 cases to NHS England and Improvment nationally to help track the spread and rate of growth of the infection. 

To ensure that boards have continuous oversight of the operational picture stemming from COVID-19, trusts are rapidly developing dashboards to track capacity, demand, supplies, staffing and testing. Early examples of these high-level dashboards capture information on the following metrics:

• patient tested for COVID-19 including results – positive, negative, pending
• beds occupied by patients with confirmed COVID-19 (ward/location specific)
• total beds occupied with confirmed COVID-19
• deaths with confirmed COVID-19
• staffing fill rates, staff sickness and self-isolating
• personal protective equipment stock and procurement chain
• local population data for modelling future demand.

We are supporting trusts to share examples and we will continue to update this information as trusts put organisational and system reporting measures in place.
