Next day briefing: Suicide prevention in England: 5-year cross-sector strategy

The government has published a new suicide prevention strategy for England, 2023 to 2028, which sets out the government’s vision and aim to prevent self-harm and suicide and improve support. A separate action plan has also been published containing a summary of the actions within the strategy.

The strategy was informed by the mental health call for evidence last year, which NHS Providers submitted a response to. To mark World Suicide Prevention Day 2023, we published a blog to shine a renewed spotlight on trusts’ work and what more is needed to make further progress on suicide prevention.

This briefing sets out a summary of the strategy’s contents, with a particular focus on key new actions, and our view. If you have any comments or questions, please contact Ella Fuller, senior policy advisor, NHS Providers (ella.fuller@nhsproviders.org).
