Responding to the health and social care secretary's speech setting out his tech priorities, the deputy chief executive of NHS Providers, Saffron Cordery said:

"We welcome the secretary of state's technology ambitions for the sector.

"We agree that while many trusts are advancing from digital adoption to true digital transformations, where technology is enabling new working cultures and patient experiences, there is much progress still to be made.

"In particular, we welcome the ambitious targets on the roll out of electronic patient records.

"However, trusts will need more support to turn this ambition into reality. This includes appropriate funding, more staff with the right skills, and increased support from the centre, for example by setting standards and coordinating commercial expertise."
