The Next steps on the NHS five year forward view has been drafted by both NHS Improvement and NHS England. It outlines progress on the ambitions set out in the Five year forward view since its original publication in October 2014, defines what still needs to be achieved over the next two years, and how this will be achieved. 

It also outlines the following priorities for the services in 2017/18:

• Deliver financial balance across the NHS
• Improve A&E performance
• Strengthen access to GP and primary care services
• Improve cancer and mental health services
