Trust leaders fear workforce burnout as pandemic takes its toll

21 January 2021

Responding to a survey by the Royal College of Physicians on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health and wellbeing of doctors, the deputy chief executive of NHS Providers, Saffron Cordery said:

"The NHS workforce has come under relentless physical, psychological and emotional pressure during the pandemic.

"An NHS Providers survey of trust leaders last year found that 99% were concerned about current levels of burnout across the workforce.

"Trusts are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of their dedicated staff.

"It is essential that the next publication of the People Plan outlines national support for NHS staff through a sustained and coordinated approach to mental health and wellbeing."
