Concerns remain about Test and Trace performance
01 July 2021
- The latest NHS Test and Trace data shows 79,248 positive cases of COVID-19 were recorded between 17 June to 23 June, which is an increase of 43% on the previous week.
- 82.5% of positive cases were transferred into the system, down from 83.6% last week.
- Of those transferred into the system, 9.6% were not reached, up from 8.1% last week.
- For all Pillar 2 routes combined, 83.8% were returned within 24 hours.
Responding to the latest figures from NHS Test and Trace, the deputy chief executive of NHS Providers, Saffron Cordery said:
"Yet again we have seen a significant increase in the number of people testing positive for coronavirus. We have now reached the highest weekly figure since mid-February.
"While there is emerging evidence that vaccinations are breaking the link between transmission, hospitalisations and deaths, we remain concerned about the performance of the Test and Trace system – a key tool for containing the virus.
"The number of cases being transferred into the system declined this week, and more people were not reached out of those transferred.
"We need to see improvement as risks from existing and new variants remain and as we look ahead to living with COVID-19 long term."
