Why creating effective leaders in the health sector is so important

Leadership in the sector is a challenge.

We need a new cohort of leaders to take health into the future. We must also tackle the long-standing issue with the diversity of the executive and board leadership in our sector. Those who have yet to reach board level have a key role to play in bringing through that new wave of diverse talent.

Conferences and events are a good opportunity to challenge our thinking and make us see things in a different way. They provide a chance for us to question what we know and glean perspectives from others in the sector that have gone through similar experiences.

That is why for this year’s conference we have opened up the opportunity for aspiring leaders in the sector to join us. This will provide a unique opportunity for them to develop their leadership mind-set by taking time out of the office to learn and debate among senior health professionals.

The event provides a broad and inspiring platform to help our emerging talent develop the skills, confidence and networks they will need to take the next steps in their career.

The theme for this year’s conference is all about change and how providers are adapting and innovating as the NHS moves towards integrated health and care systems.

Through a mixture of keynote speeches, panel debates and break-out sessions, our conference will explore the future of the NHS, as well as delivering practical sessions that enable us to share innovation. Above all, we aim to provide delegates with new insights, learning and contacts to take back to their trusts.

Set within the overall conference theme of Change, each strand will address key issues such as NHS reform, finances, quality, workforce, regulation and transformation. Our plenary sessions will also try to answer some of the big questions in the sector right now, including the importance of developing the next generation of leaders and the future funding of the NHS and social care.

This event will help to equip the next generation of leaders with the essential skills and knowledge needed to help the sector transform. It will be a key opportunity for future leaders to develop ideas, dissect solutions to the challenges we face and come away with invaluable contacts in the sector.
