Responding to shadow Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting's speech at NHS Providers' annual conference, Sir Julian Hartley, chief executive at NHS Providers said:

"We welcome the ambition for greater transparency and improvement in the NHS, as well as for more support for the trusts that need it.

"Delivering the NHS long-term workforce plan, fully funded by the government, will be key to achieving these goals.

"Fostering first-rate leadership across the service is also vital to ensuring a robust NHS that delivers the best care for patients.

"Performance and productivity are influenced by many factors including capital investment, workforce and overall system effectiveness. A comprehensive understanding of these elements is crucial in evaluating and improving NHS performance.

"Working closely on the front line would also help determine what constitutes good performance and how it should be measured.

"We look forward to entering a close dialogue with the shadow health and social care secretary on how to drive sustainable improvements in the NHS for the benefit of patients and the health service alike."
