Tangible steps to improve mental health estate

10 October 2020

Responding to the government’s announcement of funding to eradicate mental health dormitories, the deputy chief executive of NHS Providers, Saffron Cordery, said:

“The commitment to eradicate dormitory wards is fundamental to providing a suitable therapeutic environment for mental health patients and staff.

“This announcement is welcome, though long overdue.

“The state of mental health facilities has been an issue of deep concern, and an obstacle to providing the quality of care that people rightly expect.

“This has reflected the longstanding lack of equity of treatment associated with mental health.

“It is good to see the government taking tangible steps to address this on World Mental Health day.”
