Then we will be in much the same place we are now, with expensive technology solutions offering some of the benefits we hoped but not all of them, perpetuating bias in an unequal system, 'redoing' implementations because we forgot about the user needs and not solving the real challenges we face.

The role of the board and trust leaders will be to guide the organisation through these challenging questions, avoiding the hype, focusing on the desired outcomes and ensuring that the delivery is done with staff and patients at its heart. Doing this will require thinking and behaving differently to help create an environment for real, transformational change which benefits all patients and delivers progress on long standing inequalities.
