A committed, knowledgeable and effective council of governors is one of the cornerstones of a foundation trust's success. It has a key role to play in the future of the NHS in providing support and challenge to the board helping shape the organisation’s future strategy.
Our governor support programme helps to achieve excellent governance for all of our trust members and ultimately contribute to improving the overall quality of healthcare in the NHS. The programme is for individuals who are thinking about becoming a governor, new governors as well as those who have been in role for some time.
As part of our national training programme, GovernWell, we have trained over 7,000 delegates with 98% of attendees saying they would recommend our training courses to other governors.
We also provide support and guidance for governors including our annual, free Governor focus conference and regional development workshops, as well as bespoke, in-house training. We also produce a quarterly governor focus newsletter to keep governors up-to-date with the latest developments in the sector.

Working together is one of the principles of the NHS Constitution and we are keen to link with existing governor support networks and clusters where they may exist across England to help improve the service trusts offer their patients/service users.
