Daniel Elkeles visits East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust to see an example of a trust focused on improvement.
Improvement
Last week, our chief executive Daniel Elkeles enjoyed a visit to East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust to see the Lister Hospital. The organisation is focused on improvement, with recent successes including:
🔵 partnering with the Virginia Mason Institute with 1,000 staff trained in improvement techniques and 60 managers with in-depth training.
🔵 reducing nursing agency expenditure to zero, ending international recruitment, and;
🔵 now using QI techniques to look at how to reduce the variable elements of pay across the organisation.

Daniel said: "They are a large provider of maternity with 4,200 births last year, and have made great strides in improving care processes to ensure consistently good practice. This has required significant cultural change and they are delighted to have recently won a national award for overall quality of care. They are particularly proud of their maternity triage system where they have taken existing good practice from Birmingham and added an E-learning package to it. This has generated interest from many trusts and other countries.
"Thank you to Adam, Imogen, Paige and the team for showing me around."
