This submission responds to the NMC’s consultation on changes to their English language testing requirements for registrants. We support a number of changes proposed as part of this consultation process, however, our overall view is that these changes do not go far enough to remove barriers to the registration of highly qualified and competent international applicants.

While we note and appreciate the NMC’s duty to patient safety and ensuring English language competency, we also note the risk to patient safety as a result of unsafe staffing levels and staffing shortages.
