NHS Providers response to DHSC consultation on proposed amendments to the NHS pension scheme
NHS Providers responds to the Department of Health and Social Care’s consultation on proposed amendments to the NHS pension scheme seeking to continue the suspension of restrictions on return to work. In our submission we:
- Agree with the proposed continuation of pension easements beyond 31 October 2022, particularly abatement of special class holders including Mental Health Officers in light of the increased demand on mental health services
- Disagree that the continuation of easements to 31 March 2023 is a reasonable length of time, in the context of continued pressures on the NHS and its workforce. We outline our view that wider pension reform is required, in addition to a long term fully funded and costed workforce plan.
