Summary of statutory board meetings: May 2020
Our briefing, Summary of statutory board meetings: May 2020, summarises the board meeting papers of the Care Quality Commission. Key points include:
- Care homes: 47% of care homes in the North West had a coronavirus outbreak, 28% of agencies working in the North West and London said they only had enough PPE to last a week.
- Mental Health Act deaths: 58 people who were detained under the MHA have died from suspected or confirmed COVID-19. This figure has doubled since early March.
- Infection control: As the health sector looks to re-establish services, the CQC will begin to have initial conversations with Trusts about effective infection control and how to protect patients from acquiring COVID-19 whilst they receive care. CQC will be developing guidance and look to have initial conversations with Trusts in the w/b 18 May. The CQC will review the responses, assess any themes and share good practice on how Trusts have established effective prevention control strategies.
