Next Day Briefing: draft Mental Health Bill

On Monday 27 June the government published the draft Mental Health Bill 2022 (and explanatory notes), which will now undergo pre-legislative scrutiny.

The draft Bill follows the 2021 white paper, Reforming the Mental Health Act, and Sir Simon Wessely’s 2018 independent review of how to modernise the Mental Health Act 1983.

This briefing summarises the key clauses in the draft Bill and sets out NHS Providers' view on the key issues.
