Brexit briefing: UK and EU negotiating positions on citizens rights
On Monday 19 June, the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, David Davis, the EU’s chief negotiator, Michel Barnier, and their respective negotiating teams met for the first time to commence Brexit negotiations. Over the next 21 months, the two sides will need to navigate the vast and complex ground of agreeing the terms of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU and, the UK hopes, the basis for a future relationship.
This briefing provides details of:
- The latest government and political developments relating to Brexit, including implications of the general election outcome
- The negotiating process agreed by the EU and the UK
- The UK and EU negotiating positions on EU citizens living in the UK and UK nationals living in the EU following Brexit, including a question and answer section (see 3.1)
