Membership and council of governors survey

In March 2015, NHS Providers conducted a member survey, asking for benchmarking data about their membership and council of governors to compare composition and engagement.

A total of 61 member trusts responded, representing 25% of the provider sector and covering acute, ambulance, community and mental health providers.

On average, respondents had 13,500 members of which about two thirds were public. We found that most respondents contact their members quarterly and hold between one and six member events a year.

The most common council of governors size for survey respondents was 29, with on average 53% being public governors. Over 90% of respondents had at least one vacancy on their council.
