NHS Providers response to CQC consultation on regulatory fees from April 2019

We welcomed the commitments in CQC's strategy for 2016 to 2021 to implement a more targeted, risk-based inspection model and work in a more efficient, cost-effective way. These commitments remain relevant as providers continue to raise concerns about the substantial human and financial resources required to prepare and participate in an inspection.

CQC's process for setting fees should be closely aligned to the implementation of this strategy, which itself should lead to fundamental change of how the inspection regime operates and address the indirect costs of regulation on providers. This in turn should have a direct impact on the resources CQC will require in the future and we would expect effects on the costs of regulation and ultimately the reduction of fees for providers overall.
