Brexit: March overview briefing

On 29 March 2017, Prime Minister Theresa May confirmed in a statement to Parliament that she had formally notified the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, that the UK will withdraw from the European Union. By invoking Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, Mrs May has begun the two year countdown to the end of the UK’s four decade long membership of the (now) EU. The Government now has until 29 March 2019 to broker and ratify a deal with the EU on the terms of the UK’s withdrawal and, subject to EU agreement, the nature of our future relationship.

This briefing sets out core messages from the Prime Minister’s statement and letter to the European Council President, NHS Providers actions upon the triggering of Article 50 as part of the Cavendish Coalition, an overview of the next steps in the Brexit process, and updates on the latest government and political developments on Brexit.
