Trusts welcome government mental health spending pledge
18 December 2024
We welcome a commitment by the health and social care secretary to protect spending on mental healthcare
The health and social care secretary has told MPs that the ‘investment standard’ protecting spending on mental healthcare will stay.
Saffron Cordery, interim chief executive, NHS Providers, said:
"This is great news.
"Stretched NHS mental health services are under pressure like never before with record demand. Three in five leaders of mental health and learning disability NHS trusts told us they are very worried about pressures this winter on their services.
"As well as very welcome Mental Health Act reforms much more is needed to make sure that people everywhere - especially children and young people - can get high-quality mental health care when they need it."
