Responding to plans by the government to cut the number of regulatory bodies in the NHS, the chief executive of NHS Providers, Daniel Elkeles said:
“Any steps which help trusts put patient safety first while cutting back the regulatory burden they face should be welcomed.
“The NHS like every other organisation performs at its best when it’s clear what is expected of it. Today’s announcement takes us a step closer to that with its ambition to improve quality and safety, clearer lines of responsibility and accountability, and to create a simpler NHS.
“Trust leaders recognise the radical scale of the changes being proposed, and the valuable contribution made by patient safety organisations now facing abolition. These organisations have given a voice to patient and staff concerns, learning lessons when things go wrong and keeping safety on the agenda.
“Given the scale of the changes being proposed, it’s vital that staff, patients, families, and carers are given the information they need which clearly lays out what these changes mean and how this may impact them."
