Responding to the news of the death of Her Majesty The Queen, the interim chief executive of NHS Providers, Saffron Cordery said:

"Trust leaders will be deeply saddened to hear the news that Her Majesty The Queen has passed away.

"Over her 70 year reign, Her Majesty developed a close and special relationship with the NHS, most recently awarding the service with the George Cross for the courage, compassion and dedication of staff during the COVID-19 pandemic and its service to the public.

"On behalf of colleagues across NHS Providers and the NHS, we would like to send our condolences to the Royal Family during this very sad time."
