NHS Providers responds to RCP report: Underfunded, underdoctored, overstretched

21 September 2016

Commenting on the Royal College of Physicians’ report Underfunded, underdoctored, overstretched: the NHS in 2016, Head of Analysis Siva Anandaciva said:

“Today’s report from the Royal College of Physicians provides yet more evidence of the enormous pressure the NHS is under.

This time direct from the frontline, the report paints an increasingly bleak picture of doctors struggling to cope within the resources and staff numbers available.

“Highlighting under-funding, dwindling training places and the corresponding pressure this is putting on those in NHS, the report is another powerful message that we are at a tipping point. If there was ever a time for difficult decisions it is now, with NHS provider organisations over £2 billion in deficit and struggling to meet key performance targets in areas like A&E.

“We back the RCP’s call for better funding and workforce planning to support the high quality care the NHS wishes to deliver for patients and the public.”

The RCP’s report Underfunded, underdoctored, overstretched: The NHS in 2016 calls for action on three key themes – NHS funding, training and improving working lives of NHS staff.
