NHS Providers is hosting the University Hospital Association (UHA) in a move to support cutting edge discoveries and drive improvements in patient care.
Following a competitive selection process, UHA decided to join with NHS Providers.
They will work together to promote expertise, research and innovation by university hospitals.
The move will also help to ensure their challenges and priorities are heard and addressed at the highest levels.
This arrangement will complement NHS Providers’ existing work with trusts from other sectors within its membership including the mental health, community and ambulance sectors.
Welcoming the move, the interim chief executive of NHS Providers, Saffron Cordery, said:
"This is a major vote of confidence in the work of NHS Providers and what it can achieve for its members.
"It allows us to tap further into the extraordinary depth of knowledge and expertise housed within university hospitals, particularly in research, innovation, and medical education.
"By forging stronger connections, we aim to bridge the gap between cutting-edge discoveries and their practical applications within NHS trusts.
"Together, we will ensure that this vital expertise drives meaningful advances in care delivery, helping our members to tackle challenges head-on and provide the highest standards of care for patients across the country."
The chair of UHA, Professor Andy Hardy, said he was delighted with the new strategic partnership with NHS Providers:
"This move represents an exciting opportunity to champion the expertise of university hospitals in pioneering research, innovative healthcare delivery, and workforce education and training more visibly at a national level.
"Together, we will foster a deeper exchange of ideas and best practice, driving forward new approaches to enhance patient care and support NHS Providers members in meeting the evolving challenges of healthcare delivery."
