NHS Providers is hosting a virtual roundtable with Dr Nick Watts, chief sustainability officer, NHS England on Wednesday, 14 December 2022.

This virtual event is part of our In Conversation with... programme, which brings together key stakeholders in the healthcare sector with NHS trust and foundation trust chairs and chief executives. It will give you the opportunity to engage informally and under the Chatham House rule. The feedback we have received from these events is that they offer chance to have a high quality, private dialogue with senior NHS leaders, decision makers and influencers.

We are now taking expressions of interest for our next In conversation with Dr Nick Watts, chief sustainability officer, which will take place via the Zoom video conferencing platform.

Last December we published Climate change is a public health emergency: the NHS is rising to the challenge. The report looked at the barriers and enablers for trust boards to tackle climate change, finding that almost 8 in 10 trusts leaders describe environmental sustainability as a priority. Today, trusts are making continued efforts to embed sustainability and Net Zero goals into day-to-day operations despite the ongoing pressures they are facing.

We will hear Nick's reflections on how to embed good practice and ensure further progress and accountability as they implement their green plans. We will also welcome Nick's reflections on what the new Health and Care Act means for environmental sustainability in the NHS, and the role of capital investment, digital transformation and the workforce in achieving Net Zero ambitions.
