Course overview

This course introduces the NHS and provides a comprehensive overview of the history and structure of the NHS; the statutory role and responsibilities of governors and the importance of quality in healthcare.

This training builds on a trust’s induction programme to help governors learn and discuss issues from a position of insight from having initial experience in their role.

Learning objectives:

• An overview of the structure of the NHS and the governor's role within this context.
• An increased knowledge of governors’ statutory role and associated duties.
• An overview of NHS quality focusing on key topics affecting the governor role.
• The opportunity to meet and network with governors from other foundation trusts.
