Developing an effective and compassionate unitary board

This workshop focuses on the key competencies required to develop and maintain an effective and compassionate unitary board.
Compassionate, inclusive and effective leadership is a strengthened theme within the revised Well Led framework and it is always helpful to remind ourselves of the legal basis, both statutory and common law, which underpins a shared understanding of what we mean by unitary board and the impact this has on the role of the executive and non executive director. We will also explore the common problem areas along with the structures - such as good papers, appropriate agenda and committees - which need to be in place if the board is to operate effectively. However, good structure and process is only part of the solution and it is the relationships and behaviours within the board that determine the success of the board in leading the organisation. During the workshop there will be the opportunity to not only learn from peers but to participate in various exercises to develop a better understanding of what a good, compassionate unitary board looks like.
