Through rapid transformation and despite relentlessly rising pressures, quality must remain paramount. To be sustainable, NHS provider boards must collaborate more with local partners, build a collective responsibility for quality outcomes beyond their own organisation, and lead with more than their own organisational interests in mind.

This year's Quality conference explored how NHS quality culture can be embedded, adaptable and resilient, supporting greater collaboration and innovation to improve care.

The programme featured:

  • A keynote presentation by Professor Sir Muir Gray exploring the opportunities and challenges that a triple-value framework provides to greater personalisation and more sustainable population healthcare.

  • Professor Judith Smith, professor of health policy and management and director of health services management centre at the University of Birmingham discussing board leadership behaviour changes to improve quality and safety.

  • Breakout sessions exploring organisational determinants and context for quality, including human factors, supporting staff to raise concerns, and using data more intelligently for transformation and improvement.

  • Further breakout sessions featuring innovation in quality culture and patient safety within key service areas, including end of life care, maternity services and mental health, learning disabilities and community services.
